Kalamata olives!

Following the success of previous years (\alpha, \beta and \gamma), the fourth edition of the Greek Stochastics Meeting will take place in Kalamata, Greece, on August 25-28, 2012. The meeting's primary aim is to facilitate a broad discussion of current research themes related to Inference for Dynamical Systems. It will consist of three short courses by Susanne Ditlevsen, Mark Girolami and Darren Wilkinson (see below for more information), a session on weather forecasting, as well as contributed talks and poster presentations.

The workshop is organised in collaboration with the Department of Statistics, London School of Economics.

The three short courses will be given by :

Susanne Ditlevsen (University of Copenhagen) on "Stochastic Models in Biology"
Mark Girolami (University College London) on "Manifold MCMC for Markov Jump Processes via the Linear Noise Approximation"
Darren Wilkinson (University of Newcastle) on "Bayesian Methods for Partially Observed Markov Processes"

There will also be a session on dynamical systems and weather forecasting from members of the Centre for the Analysis of Time Series

Abstract Submission:

The programme will be announced shortly but there are a few places left for for contributed talks or a poster presentations. To be considered please submit an abstract to GrStoch@gmail.com as soon as possible. Acceptance will be confirmed shortly thereafter.

Location / Accommodation

The conference will take place in the Elite City Resort Hotel in Kalamata.
A limited number of rooms is available at the Elite City Resort Hotel at

75 Euros (single room, bed and breakfast) or 90 Euros (single room, half board).

Note that the Greek Stochastics meeting do aim not only in attendance of high quality lectures and talks, but also in lively scientific interactions between the participants during the day. This year, all the meeting's activities will take place in the Elite City Resort hotel which has kindly offered reduced prices for the workshop's participants. Therefore, we recommend that you book your accommodation in this hotel to fully exploit the spirit of the meeting.

Travel

How to get to Kalamata and Elite City Resort Hotel:

Option A

Fly to Athens airport (El. Venizelos)
Contact us with your arrival information. We will try to organise direct transportation to the hotel where the workshop will take place at a comparable price with the Option C (see below).

Option B

Fly to Kalamata airport via Athens (El. Venizelos) with Aegean Airlines http://www.aegeanair.com
Take a taxi to the hotel (approximately 3 Euros)

Option C

Fly to Athens airport (El. Venizelos)
Take bus X93 from the airport to Kifissos Coach Station (costs 5 euros, buses leave every 15 minutes, and the journey lasts approximately 30 minutes).
Then take a bus to Kalamata Coach Station (costs 22 euros, buses leave every hour, and the journey lasts approximately 3 hours).
Take a taxi from Kalamata Coach Station to the hotel (costs approximately 3 euros).

Option D

Fly to Kalamata airport (Note that there are some direct charter flights to Kalamata airport over the summer -- look at search engines, such as http://www.skyscanner.net/
Take a taxi to the hotel (approximately 3 Euros)
